Connecticut Lottery Corporation Returns Over $412 Million to the State in Fiscal Year 2023

Marks third straight year where CLC has contributed over $410 million to the state

Rocky Hill, CT / (August 7, 2023)  - As excitement continues to grow with Tuesday’s Mega Millions® estimated jackpot increasing to a potential record $1.55 billion ($757.2 million cash option), the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC) is proud to announce that, for the third straight year, CLC has contributed over $410 million* to the State of Connecticut.

Total sales for the corporation reached over $1.7 billion in the recently concluded Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23), returning more than $1.1 billion to winning players and generating over $412 million in profits that led to $404 million being transferred to the state’s General Fund. In the last 5 years alone, CLC has returned over $1.9 billion to the state’s General Fund.*

“We are proud to continue to be a reliable source of funding for our state,” said Gregory Smith, CLC President and CEO. “These outstanding results would not be possible without our much appreciated players and dedicated staff, retailers, retail sports wagering business partners, and the vendors who provide our gaming systems.”

Additionally, CLC contributed $3.3 million in FY23 to the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Service’s Chronic Gamblers Treatment Rehabilitation account to help fund the state’s problem gambling helpline and treatment services. CLC also paid $5.4 million in FY23 to cover state regulatory costs.

In addition to exceeding budget projections for the recently concluded fiscal year, CLC helped boost Connecticut’s local economy by paying over $80 million in lottery retailer bonuses and commissions in FY23 to their network of about 2,900 predominantly small-to medium-size Connecticut businesses.
