CT Lottery’s Commitment to
Responsible Gambling
Responsible Gambling (RG) is a core value of the CT Lottery. The mission of the CT Lottery is to “raise revenue in an entrepreneurial manner for the State of Connecticut, consistent with the highest standards of good public and social responsibility, by offering products to our players that are fun and entertaining, and by ensuring the public’s trust through integrity and honesty.”
The CT Lottery has a three-pronged approach to Responsible Gambling (RG):
- We develop our products specifically for adults (must be 18+ to play);
- We strive to educate the public about making healthy choices when it comes to gambling through responsible gambling campaigns; and,
- We educate the public about the Problem Gambling Helpline (text and chat too) so that if a player, or a loved one, needs help s/he can directly be connected to professional support.
In order to best implement our RG efforts, CT Lottery participates in the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) - National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) RG standards verification program, and supports the CT Council on Problem Gambling and the state Department of Mental and Addiction Services. CT Lottery has been certified by NASPL - NCPG at its highest certification, the Sustaining Level, making CT Lottery one of the only lotteries in North America to reach this achievement. CT Lottery will continue to build and improve upon its own various RG efforts, which include employee training, Retailer training, advertising and communication efforts, player education, stakeholder engagement, and research support.
Employees at CT Lottery are not experts in prevention or treatment of problem gambling. However, the State of Connecticut is fortunate to have many clinical and social service experts in this field. CT Lottery contributes $3.3 million annually to the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Chronic Gamblers Rehabilitation Fund to help fund prevention and treatment programs across the state. CT Lottery also commits additional resources towards other responsible gambling initiatives, including Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and educational materials. CT Lottery also contributes additional time and resources to various state and national RG initiatives.
